Three hundred men, reputed, to be Communists, marched on the I rea.sury in Brisbane to-day, threatening to invade the building. They demanded to see the Minister of Labour, because, they declined to work for rations. When the mob threatened to become uncontrollable, the police drew their batons, and in a melee several men were struck down. Later there was another demonstration outside the Trades' Hall. One man struck Sub-Inspector Pugh, knocking him into the gutter. The crowd then swarmed in to Inflow up the advantage, hut they quickly retired when' the police drew their batons. Tt was reported at to-day’s meeting of- the Education Board that eightythree qualified teachers were unemployed. AUCKLAND, March 18. Provision in the Unemployment Act for the relief for unemployed teachers was suggested at: the meeting of the Auckland Education Board by the Chairman (Mr A. Burns), who said the idle teachers would this year get little work, or at most only temporarily. Tin* Board was trying to give all a turn.
There are in. Auckland district Tot) teachers unemployed. The Board nn.s prepared a list, and will take on highest graded ones first it they is any opportunity.
