LOW LEVELL RECORD
LAMBS 7d A DOZEN. GISBORNE, March 16. A new low level record in sheep prices has been established by a transaction on the East Coast, in which a line of 60 lamb's changed hands lor fT.s. The stock are reported to have been in fairly good condition, but the owner was compelled to sell them owing to the shortage of feed on his property. Other “forced" sales have been made at the Matnwliero yards for similar reasons lines of sheep being sold at ,'ld a bead, while reports have been circulated of drafts being given away by their owners. These prices, however, are not truly ind'eative of Poverty Bay values. At a clearing sale of well-known stock this vfr.rh four-tooth ewes made from Vis fid to 13s (>, two-tooth fis fid to 11s 7d, and lambs 3s 3d to 7s. Many local station-owners have been making #-9; of the outside' markets, many thousands of sheep having been sent to the Waikato, hut the returns have not been better, in comparison, than those ruling locally.
