PUSSY OVERBOARD.
If it is true that a cat has nine lives there is a kitten in Auckland that is a few short of that number an the result of an accident the other morn* ing. The kitten can usually be seen sunning her self along the water front By some slip she fell into the harbour The first seen of her was when she she appeared from under the Central wharf near tin? shore end. She had evidently been in the water lor soirm time, and it was all she could do to keep her head above the water. Her struggles were noticed by a gull perched on the floating crane, and the bird immediately swoopod down towards her, A cry from the bird brought others apparently from nowhere, and in a few seconds there was a score of gulls whirling and screeching above the kitten. By this time her plight had been notice! by a man on the floating crane, and he attractel the drowning animal's attention by spnshing a landing net in the water. “Pussy” needed no second invitation, and she had just enough strength left to reach the net. The first effort to save tiie kitten was unsuccessful, and she toppled hack into the water, but at tlie second attempt she was lanled on the deck,
