PETERSEN ROAD. Mr Jas O’Brien, ALP., has received the following letters from Ministers of the Crown in response to representations made by him : Dear Sir,— With reference to your letter of the 28th January last and your representations on behalf of the Hliriaari Branch of the Now Zealand Farmers’ Cnion, regarding the proposed arrangement between Mr J. J. .McIntosh and the Westland County Council for the construction of a portion of Peterson Road which would he nearer to the river than the present legal route-, I have to advise that with a view to obtaining full information I arranged for an Inspecting Engineer from the Head Office of the Department to personally visit the locality and investigate the circumstances brought under notice. As a result of the information contained in the report which T have just received 1 have decided that no Government grant will he given for expenditure on other than the present- recognised legal road passing through. Section 2829, and the Westland County Council is fining notified accordingly.-—Yours faithfully, AY. B. Taverner, Afinister of Public Works.
EVANS CREEK SCHOOL. Dear Sir, I have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 18th February and in reply to say that on the 9th February the Secretary of the Canterbury Education Board informed Director that owing to .some family differences the pupils of Evans Creek had changed over and the roll number dropped to 0 during the third term, lie also stated that under the above circumstances the roll of Pukckiira had increased to 9 or 10. Ho said that arrangements had been made to transfer Mi- Kelly, the teacher of the Evans Crock School, to another school from flu* Ist, March, hut that in the meantime lie had boon drafted to Pukekura "'here he would have a reasoiiahl • chance of earning his Grade 1 salary. The Canterbury Board was of opinion that in view of the fact that there are only 0 pupils at Evans Crook with a new teacher, the school should ho plan. i'd in Grade 0. The Board’s proposals wore approved by my Department. In view of the small roll number at Evans Creek, 1 regret that it is not possible to place the school in Grade I.—Amours faith folly.
