If the weather conditions are .suitable Miss Mercedes Gleit/.e will probably make an attend to swim Cook Strait next week. -Mr Carey stated last evening that lie had received a telegram from the swimmer’s pilot in Wellington saying that weather conditions were improving. Morse, chairman of the Napier Earthquake Relief Fund Committee that the restrictions on Napier residents and others returning to, or visiting Napier have now been removed. NAPIER’S PLAN

NAPIER, March 16. A plan being evolved for the bigger and brighter Napier .provides for stretching the town towards the sea, which has appreciably receded. This will permit wider-streets, all property owners getting the same size sections hut in slightly altered positions, each section being moved seaward. The scheme has been referred to a committee for a report. Surveyors recommended it as being simple and effective. AN INQUEST. WELLINGTON, March 16. The inquest regarding the death of ■lames Neshit Mouat concluded to-day, when the evidence of Phillip Lyalph Darke, the driver .of the car which struck deceased, was heard. He attributed the accident to his view being blocked by a lorry bis going out to the side of the road to avoid the tail suing of the lorry, and a tiro coming off when he turned sharply to avoid deceased.

r Fhe Coroner (Mr I. Salek) returned a verdict that deceased died Us the result of injuries received through being struck by a motor car driven by Darke. In doing so, he said, he did not propose to make any comment on the evidence.
