OIL FROM COAL

A HAPPY PROSPECT. [United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright], (Received this Hav at 9. a.m.) LONDON, March 16. A prospect of relieving the present depression in the coalfields was held out by Mr Georage Hall (an authority on such matters) in a speech at PontvPridd.

He said that British Admiralty tests carried out during the past year had proved that oil produced from coal gives the same results as fuel as the natural oil. The Admiralty were offered a bulk supply at a price not far above the old price of oil.

Instead of the nation spending fortytwo millions sterling for tlie importation of crude oil. it could divert a large proportion of the money to the purchase of oil produced from British "oalfields.
