The proposal in hand to tender a complimentary Function to the management of the electrical and dredging companies in appreciation of the many
kind services readily performed in the interests of the comm unity, is a very happy idea and will he earned through with such eclot as t.i make the occasion a memorable one indeed. Casting the memory back then l have keen many gratuitous acts by the companies which have been of particular 'benefit to the tow,a and di-trict. It will be recalled that about the time of the rciculation of the town for electric lighting, the Prince of Wales’ visit transpired. The Company’s action on that occasion through the management, was very spontaneous, and enabled electric lighting to be used freely and without cost to the citizens in the brilliant displays made at the time. Again, on the occasion of the Exhibition some seven years ago, the management was geimrous and helpful at everv stage in assisting wi ll the ciF'etive lighting of the Fug range of buildings in use. The Hospital niamigemoi l must also be greatly indebted to the Company for the liberal lighting service and contra et enjoyed at the institution at a snecial price. The street lighting of the town was made more effective and serviceable by the installation of electric light, and the Company has met every request of the Borough Council in quite a generous .spirit. .Many other services imve been readily rendered at call ill assisting local functions ill the theatre, .hulls, or oil Cass Square; anti something more tilnll tlie set vibe hits arrested atention. It was tlie spirit, in which the service was carried out. The relations with the Company have been more than might be expected with a, business Undertaking and its clients, and little wonder that the coining recognition so Tar as the people are concerned, is going to be made an event of outstanding interest. The go'd friends of the town without seeking for it, have earned the appreciation of the whole community, ami it is but right that that teeluig should take tangible form, and find an outlet in a public expression which will disclose the cordial warmth ol the feelings subsisting bet ween the Company and the public at largo.
