In finding two relief workers, Francis William Meiizies,. 3T, and Alexander Braid Blance, 24, £2 each, in default fourteen days, for conversion of a oar, Magistrate Mosley said.-—‘‘According to the court records during the past months there has been a number of those men on relief works before me, A large proportion are decent fellows, but a small proportion are wasting their earnings in drink. It is a shame that this should occur and that private and public money is being wasted on men of this kind.” INQUEST RESUMED. SUICIDE VERDICT RETURNED. CHRISTCHURCH, March 16. The inquest on the bodies of Claude Hargeod Boundy, aged 23, and Muriel McDonald, 16, wan resumed by Coroner Mosley. A letter found in Boundv’s wallet was handed in. It gave an indication that the pair intended to commit suicide and asked his mother’s forgiveness. The Coroner said:— 1 ". I cannot come to any other conclusion from the evidence and letter submitted, but that the two entered into a suicide pact and in furtherance of that agreement jumped over the cliffs.” A verdict was returned accordingly.

BREAKING AND ENTERING CHARGE.

CHRISTCHURCH March 16

Bail was refused by Mr Mosley, S. M., when Robert William Learning, a labourer, was charged with -breaking und. entering a dwelling on February 24th.

The police said that an elderly man had been seriously assaulted and accused was fortunate in not facing a more serious charge.

DOUBLE DROWNING

Maurice Lynch, single, aged 23 and William Spiers, married, aged 25, were drowned hy the capsizing of a boat crossing the Buller at Newton Flat yesterday. Two others swam ashore. BLOWN TO PI ECES. NELSON, March 16. John McCarthy, single, aged 47, exPublie Works employee, in Murchison district, blew himself to pieces with gelignite, the explosion wrecking his wash-house. INJURED BY CAR. TIMARU, March 16. Through being struck by a passing motor car in Stafford Street, W. T. D. Revell, accountant and ex-President of New Zealand Accountants Association, sustained serious injuries, being dragged under a car for twenty feet, suffering a compound fracture of the thigh and head injuries. He was removed to a private hospital.
