TASMAN YACHT RACE

THE START. N.Z. BOAT LAST. (Bij Telegraph —Ter Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 15. The yacht race across the Tasman commenced yesterday afternoon in perfect weather conditions. To-day the conditions are again ideal. and tli. yachts should have a good start on their long journey. The Norwegian yacht “Teddy” crossed the starting line at two o’clock followed a minute or two later hv the “Oiniarn.” Forty minutes later the Auckland boat “Rangi” crossed the line alter her hasty preparation, the local officers of the Yacht Squadron having ret used to relay the start of the race to enable the three yachts to cross the line together. Large crowds assembled on the waterfront before the race, the competitors being given an enthusiastic farewell. Hundreds of yachts and launches followed the contestants down the harbour. The Rangi in racing rig, had already knocked ten minutes off her late start by the time she reached North Head. At the request of Messrs Bennell and Tambs, the time of the late starter was recorded, and an allowance will he made at the finish of flic race. i "OIMARA” TAKES LEAD. AUCKLAND. March 15. The light keeper at Cape Brett reported to-nijj-ht that the “Oimara” | passed at eleven o’clock this (Sunday) morning. | The Teddy and Rangi. which were separated by about one mffe and a half,, followed here at three o’clock this afternoon. The Teddy was close in shore. The j others were about four miles out. The weather was fine. There wa s a light wind from the south-east.
