POACHING OF TROUT
UNPREMEDITATED OFFENCE,v WELLINGTON, March 13. Three mfen went eeling in the South Karori Stream, but finding trout more plentiful they turned their attention to these. However, they also attracted the ranger, who found them in possession of twenty-one trout, including a number under size. It was acknowledged that the poaching was not promediated,' and for this reason, the Bench, dealt lightly with the men, imposing minimum fines of £2 on each of two charges of use of the unlawful devices to take trout and the taking or killing of trout les s than nine inches.
