DOLE PAYERS PROTEST.

(To the Editor.) Sir:—l notice in your issue of yesterday, a correspondent signing himself “Parent,’’ complaining about the Dole system, and he seemed within reason. But had “Parent’’ witnessed the following, no doubt he would have made a stronger protest in your valuable paper:— One of the unemployed was engaged cutting blackberries and gorse on one of the hack streets, and owing to it being a wet day. was seen using the slasher with one hand and holding an umbrella over his head with the other. Now if the umbrella was supplied I beg to protest before a demand is made for gumboots. I remain, “ONE OF THE DOLE PAYERS.” Hokitika, March 12.
