E Alt T’H QU A K E COAIM ITT EE. 'The adjourned meeting of the Earthquake Committee was held at the Town Ball yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Present:—H.is Worship the Mayor (G. A. Perry Esq.) Messrs J. A. Murdoch, \Y. Jeffries, D. Stuart, E. Thorn, A. Lawn, P.. Renton, W. E. Richards, H-T.-Parry, D. J. Evans, and T. W. Bruce. The minutes were read ami confirmed. 'The outward correspondence was approved. The Secretary reported the amount of the local fund was now £'1,205 13s 4d. The copper trail now reached 411 feet 101 inches. The various carrying firing had replied agreeing to bring in gifts free for Paddy’s Market' on Saturday. Received with thanks. Air W. Jeffrie/3 said there was plenty of room for more gifts for Saturday afternoon’s sale in Weld St. and it was decided all gifts should be sent to Air Jeffries’ store.

It was resolved to hold the Gala on Cass Square the following evening (tonight) commencing at 7 o’clock with the cycling events. The Knnieri Electric Coy. wrote offering to fix any required lighting free. Received with thanks. Mr Evans reported arrangements for the community sitig «ong were welt in hand. Air A. Wylde of Greymouth would be tlio song loader, and with Mr Coll of Grey mouth would present some l humorous, sketches. Miss Adria. Bush of Greymouth had kindly offered to present comedy character recitals (a) Aty Novelette (Anon) and (b) "I Wouldn’t'be too Ladylike” (A. P, Herbert). Alias Thwaites also of Grey, mouth kindly offered to present ft classic dance. Several local people were also assisting including Rev. Naylor, who would sing a baritone song. Several .solos by ladies and gentlemen and some instrumental items would lie included in the programme also. Aliss .Giese: would be the sol© abcompamste, Air A. Lawn the community accompanist, for which Mr L. Michel had kindly provided song sheets. The entertainment promised to be outstanding and should attract a bumper attendance at the nominal charge of one shilling for admission.
