PARLIAMENT
THE OPENING CEREMONY. (Ihj Telegraph —Ter Tress Association J WELLINGTON, March 11. The emergency session of Parliament summoned for the purpose oi dealing with urgent legislation arising out of the prevailing depression and Hawke’s Bay earthquake, was opened at 2.30 this afternoon by the Governor-Gener-al with the traditional ceremony. Tin- Vice-Regal party left- Government House ;it 2.15 the departure being signalled by a salute of nineteen guns iVum Point Jerningham. His Excellency, after inspecting the guard of honour formed from Wellington College Cadets, among whom a iiumb'T of cadets from Napier were included. proceeded to the Legislative Council chamber where lie read t lie Speech from the Throne to members of bol.li Houses.
On members of the House of Representatives returning to their own chamber the new member for "Western Maori. Taite Te Tamo, was formerly sworn in. Notice was given of the intention to introduce the following Bills; Local Election and Polls Amendment (Mr Mason), Death Duties Amendment (Mr Poison). Gaming Bill Mr Armstrong). Currency Bill (Mr Mason). Crimes Amendment Bill (Mr Mason). Property Law Amendment (Mr Mas. oiD. Rating Amendment Mr Mason). Mr A. E. dull gave notice of ids intention to move a respectful Address-in-Reply to be presented to the Gov-, orUor-General.
Mr H. K. Holland (Bullcr) gave notice of intention to move an Amendment to the Address-in-Reply, to the effect that the Government did not possess the confidence of the House or country. 'The usual motions expressing appreciation of the services rendered to New Zealand, and sympathy with relatives were adopted in respect to the following deceased. Legislators John Bair (former Chairman of Committee of the Legislative CounciL. 'I". Shader Weston (Member of the Legislative Council), George Hutchinson (former ALP. for Paten). The House at four p.m. rose till 2-30 p.m. next day as a mark of respect to the deceased legislators. The Legislative Council met at p.m. Sir James Allen gave notice of intention to move an Address-i n-Replv on Friday. ’Fho Council adjourned at 3.5 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. next day.
