On timidity afternoon, while coming clown the iiii! near Marsdcn, a motor lorry belonging to the Grey County Council overturned. Just previously, engine trouble had developed, and the County mechanic, Mr G. Davis, who had put matters right, was driving the lorry when, apparently, some of the mechanism ceased to function. Davis and a County workman were pinned under the overturned vehicle, being extricated by M■■ Tom Delaney, the man in charge. Davis suffered some facial ambrasions and shock. The steering gear and front wheels of the lorry were put out of action. The. lorry was brought in yesterday for repairs.

The (loath occurred last evening at his residence, Chapel Street, Greymouth, of Mr Lewis Sheppard, at the age of Jsis years, after an illness lasting for n considerable time. The de-c-eased was a native of the island of Mauritius, and had been on the West Coast for about thirty years, having mg been engaged for many years as a waterside worker, and lie was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and a family of five daughters (Mrs Parmenter, and Misses Holy, Nell and Betty Sheppard, of Greymoiilh, and Miss Clara Sheppard, of Otirn), and two sons, Barney and .fames, also of Creymouth.
