UNEMPLOYMENT
A DEMONSTRATION. Australian Press Association. J SYDNEY, March 6. There was an unemployment demonstration in the city to-day. It passed off quietly. About fifteen hundred men and youths, who had the Government’s authority, participated in the procession. They carried banners with more or less provocative slogans painted thereon. Two hundred police guarded the route, but at no time were they called on for action. Vigorous speeches with regard to the privations of the workers and their families, and as to the failure of the N.B.W. Labour Government to live up to tbeir promises were delivered. After this a deputation saw the Minister for Labour. Mr Baddeley, and placed their case for relief, increased rations, and clothing before him. The Premier, Mr Lang, could not be found. Air Baddeley promised to place their representations before the Cabinet with a recommendation that the dole be increased, and that more work be found for the unemployed.
