OKARITO GOLD DREDGING COMPANY. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The following is an extract from a report, dated February 28th, 1931, from the engineer to the Okarito FiveMile Beach Gold Dredging Company: “Dredge—Tlie erection of the superstructure and caulking of the deck are almost completed. Another ten days’ work will finish the deck, main framing, and gantry. In the meantime, the erection of the machinery is in hand. A start was made yesterday with the erection of the head-plates and top tumbler bearings, and next week should see the top tumbler and crown wheel in position. The erection of framework for the boxes and tables will ho commenced ns scon as the decking is caulked and the seems lined with pitch. The chafing beams at the sides of the ladder and in the well hole are ready for bolting in position. “The Claim : —lt was not possible to reach the bottom at the seaward end of the cut with the elevator in its

present position. Good wash is showing at the deepest part reached—27 feet from the crest of the ridge. A wide and deep channel was cut through the peat. and has been cleaned down to the elevator. Cleaning round the elevator should be completed and the boxes washed by Tuesday next.”

Since the receipt of the report advice has been received hv telegraph that tlie wash up has been completed and 35 ounces obtained for the fortnight’s work.
