A gallery of twelve hundred watched tlie swimmers contest events in the New Zealand Championships at Gonville Baths this evening, when the first day’s programme was completed. Hie weather was fine but cold. G. Bridson, of Auckland, retained the men’s 10") yards and mile titles as did the 15(1 yards men’s backstroke champion L. J. Moorehouse, of Canterbury. Ihe Aucklander, Marie Farquliar took the women’s TOO yards title, held by Kathleen Miller, who has retired from the amateur ranks. The meeting is expected to conclude on Saturday. Results: — 100 Yards Men’s Championship finalßridson 1, Emvright 2, darkle 3. Time 58 2-5. Won by four yards with a foot between second and third. iOO Yards Ladies’ Championship:Miss 'M. Farquliar (Auckland) 1; Miss N. Stratton (Auckland) 2; Miss M. Smth (Auckland) 3. Time 69 4-osees. The race was 1 between Misses Farquhar and Stratton, the former gaining the decision by a foot.

.150 Yards Men's Backstroke Cham-pionship:—-it. J. Moorehouse (Canterbury) 1; A. Raper (Auckland) 2; A. G. Bolam (Canterbury) 3. Time Imm 56 3-qsqcs. Won by 20 yards.

One Mile Men’s Championship:—G. Bridson (Auckland) 1; A. Stokes (Canterbury) 2; D. Reid (South Canterbury) 3. Time 24min 24 l-ssees. With 44 laps to go Bridson lapped Gowan and Reid, and went on to win by two and a-half laps. Th the Yaldhurst Cup the points are: —Auckland, 25, Canterbury 9, Welling_ ton 6, South Canterbury 1.
