TO HELP DAIRYMEN

CO-OPERATION URGED. (Auckland “Star”.) A conference of North Auckland dairy companies to consider lessening the cost of marketing and manufacture was held this week. Fifteen companies were represented, and Mr W. Grounds (Hokianga) was elected to the chair. The discussions were of a very lengthy nature, and the proceedings lasted from 3 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. The following resolutions were carried : “That this conference recommends that the directors of North Auckland dairy companies give the matter of merging their sincere consideration!, where it is thought that by coming together it would be in the best interests of the producers affected. “That it be a recommendation to dairy companies to consider elimination of overlapping in cream collection, in cases where reorganisation of companies is impossible.” The principal discussion hinged on the following :~4‘That in the opinion of this conference the time has arrived when the dairy farmers in North Auckland should co-ordinate in methods of marketing.” This was eventually carried unanimously.

The final resolution was:—“That the question of co-operative marketing he further discussed at the annual conference of North Auckland dairy companies when the result of the proposed amalgamation of co-operative organisations may be known, and that the New Zealand Co-operative Marketing Association and Amalgamated Dairies Ltd., be qslced to meet immediately to finalise matters.” The motion was adopted. The purport of the above resolutions is to arrange for the co-operative marketing of the whole of the North Auckland butterfat output of 15.000 tons, which is approximately one-sixth of the total butter exported from the Dominion.
