BREACH OF PROMISE
C. C. BLACK. v TO PAY £175. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 1. Damages amounting to £175 were awarded in the Supreme Court to-day against Charles Cecil Black, member of Parliament for Motueka, who was--* sued by Edith May Bartlett, spinister of AAEllington for £IOOO. Damages for breach of promise of marriage. In the course of his judgment, the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Mvers) said it had been clearly proved 'that there was an agreement To marry. In regard to the second defence that the ■engagement had been rescinded by mutual consent, thereby excusing defendant from the performance of the agreement. His Honour said that substantially he had accepted the plaintiff’s version of the matter.
