THOUGHTS FOR THE Times.

A LITTLE NONSENSE NQAV AND THEN. Remarking that life was a serious business it people cared to make it so, Air Jim Gerald, the well known comic actor now m pantomime, points out that from the earliest times wise men had known the value of a little nonsense now and then. Tile old kings used to keep jesters to enliven tne atmosphere of the court when things oeeame too serious. “No amount ot laughing will cure our economic ills,” lie says, “but it will nelp us to bear them. I may be prejudiced because amusing people is my job, but all entertainment is based on the knowledge that we must not be serious always, and laughter is one of the best medicines we have. That is why I think pantomimes are good for children, and I am sure that the reason why we like playing to children is that they love it so.”
