The al tract ions of the “talking” presentation of the comic f >•'<■ cm “Rio Rita” drew all Hokitika to the Princess Theatre last night, the building being crowded in all parts. The production took the house by storm, the audience being stirred to great enthusiasm at times. Jt was produced very lavishly with the second act in colours. The dressing and the mounting ranked as superb. There was a very large company, and all the details wore brought out very effectively. There were many moving scenes, and the Mexican spectacle was well maintained at every turn. All the parts were were filled. The comic elements pleased immensely and caused many a hearty laugh. A Mickey cartoon which preceded the principal picture, also caused unbounded delight. The same programme will lie repeated to-night for the last time. The exhibits, in many classes were numerous, and some came in ;or very favourable comment Pom the judges, as in the fancy work section, in which entries came from several outside localities. In the Live stock sections, however, the entreis were disappointing.

An old and esteemed resident of the Grey district, Mr .Jacob Laty, pnssaway in his 78th year at his residence. Coal Creek Flat, last evening. He had lately been in failing health, ami his end was not unexpected. He was a native ol Weardale, Durham, England. Several accidents took place at the Grey A and P Show Grounds yesterday afternoon, but fortunately no one was seriously injured. Whilst taking part in the steer riding competition, Mr F. Becker was thrown forward from the back of his mount, and one of tha animal’s horns penetrated the rider's cheek, inflicting a nasty wound, and injuring his nose. He was immediately taken in the ambulance to the hospital, where bis wounds were attended to. A lad named Eindbom was thrown from a horse, but he sustained only minor facial injuries, which were attended to at the Park. Another lad named Adams, was swinging on a false rail, when the rail became dislodged, falling on to the hoy’s thighs. He was removed to his home suffering mainly from shock. Another accident took place when a horse, driven in a gig, by Mr P. O’Donnell junr. bolted down the enclosure where the horse sections were being judged. The driver was unable to check the horse's career and the gig, after swaying dangerously for some time, overturned. The'driver was thrown clear, and escaped injury, but the gig was considerably damaged.
