SHOCKING ACCIDENT. He was removed in great agony to the hospital, where he died this morning. He leaves a widow and two children. BREACH OF PROMISE. ~ WELLINGTON. February 27. A breach of promise action was 1 brought forward to-day by Edna May Bartlett, a spinster, of Wellington, against G. C. Black M.P. for Motueka. The Chief Justice, Sir M. Myers, was on tho bench. Plaintiff alleges a verbal agreement to marry being made in January 1927. She was always ready and willing to marry, but be bad neglected and rel fused to marry her, and in January 1939 married another woman. The committee’s recommendation was that no levy he made for . capital expenditure, which means a re- ; duction of ten thousand sterling on local, authorities. This is merely a temporary concession during the depression. MOTOR CYCLE COLLISION. RIDER FATALLY INJURED. HAMILTON. February 27. Fatal injuries were sustained by George Deacon, 23, when the motor cycle he was riding collided with a lorry in Ward Street. Hamilton, last night. Leslie Emerson. 23, who was pillion riding on the motor-cycle lies in the hospital in a grave condition. Both were utrovvn heavily with the impact sustaining fractured skulls. Deacon was well known and was a representative of tho South Auckland Football As-ociation. COLLIERY DISPUTE ENDS. HAMILTON. February 27. The Glenafton colliery dispute ended and the men will resume unconditionally on Monday morning. This decision was reached at a mass meeting of miners yesterday. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL, CHRISTCHURCH, February 27. Lostlin Norman Mclntosh, 26, a fitter, was committed for trial this morning on a charge of recklessly driving a motor ear on the North Road on January 25 thereby -causing the death of George Harland Garbutt. The case was heard at Ivaiapoi. A doctor evidenced that accused smelt, strongly of liquor after the accident. Another witness said accused was on the wrong side of the road.
