SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The Swimming Club’s Carnival took qlace at the Municipal Baths last veiling before a fair attendance of the public. The Municipal Band enlivened proceedings prior to tbe commencement of the events while the Parryphone was once more to tHe fore, the music being a treat to listen to during the events. A feature of the evening was the excellent finishes prevailing in practically every race, only touches: separating the placed men. The presence of a number of representatives from Greymouth and Cobden attracted a great deal of interest as was evinced in the exciting Relay Race at the conclusion. . The following are the results:— | Girls’ race, 14 years and under:— J A. Olsen lj Collett 2nd. Tinw 1 t 8 l-o secs. Mens’ race, 25 yards, Ist. heat: Beckman 3sdc» 1; S. Diedrichs 2sccs 2. Time 15 secs. 2nd. heat:—Taafe lsec 1; Houston 2secs 2. Time 12 4-osecs. 3rd. heat:—Adamson 3secs 1; AYest 2secs 2. Time 15secs. Final:—Taafe lsec 1; Beckman Usees 2. Time 12secs, Newman Cup, 2nd distance 50 yds: IV. Saunders llsecs 1; J. I’arkhill RTsecs 2; R. Diedrichs scr 3. ]>. Diedrichs finished first but was disqualified for starting a second before' bis time. His time was 32 seconds an excellent effort from scratch. Ladies Race, 25 yards:— N. Yarrall 2secs 1; L. Staines scr 2. Time 15 1-5 Mens 220 yards:—Orr 7secs 1; Eales scr 2. Time 3 mins. 8 secs. This was a good, race, Orr winning bv about 3 yards from Eales, who put in an excellent finish. Mens 50 yards, Ist heat: —Taafe lsec 1; Lind 2secs 2. Time 30 4-5. 2nd heat:—S. Diedrichs 3secs I; Eales scr 2. Time 33 2-5. 3rd heat:—P Diedrichs 2sees 1; Boyes scr "2- Time 32 4-5. Final—S. Diedrichs 1; P. Diedrichs 2. Time 33 4-5. Taafe finished first but was disqualified for starting before his time. Ribbon dive off spring board: Houston 1; AYest 2. Height 7ft 9in. A lens’ diving:—AYills 1; Houston 2. Ladys’ diving:—J. Parkhill 1; L. Staines 2. Relay race, 3 teams : —Hokitika 3secs 1 ; Cobden scr 2; Greymouth SseCß 3. Time. 61 bgcs, Won by a touch.
