SUNDAY ISLAND SETTLEMENT

DR ROSS REPLIES TO CRITICISM, (Australian Press Association.) BRISBANE, February 25. Replying to the comments of the New Zealand Lands Department, Dr A. J, Ross states that he never quostioned the fact that Sunday Island belonged to the New Zealand Government, but while he was In New Zealand recently he became president of the Sunday Island Settlement Association, the objects of which were to purchase 275 acres of freehold in the centre of the island from a nwn named Parket, and then settle fourteen families there. Each family would get from 20 to 24 acres, Dr Ross affording financial assistance to the scheme. As to the New Zealand contention that 275 acres would not support 14 families, this was a matter of opinion, as it was the richest land on the island.
