BANDITS PREVENT RESCUE. (United Press Association- By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrig/it.) SHANGHAI. February 24. Thirty people were drowned when the Chinese steamer “Fooyuan” struck a rock at Kunlington Rapids in a gorge on the river Yangtse. She foundered, blocking the narrow navigation channel, which is thirty miles up the river A sister ship, the “Yukiaiig,” was standing by to rescue the passongei s. when she was suddenly fired on by shore bandits, who prevented the attempt at rescue, enfilading the priced passengers aboard the sinking ship. One hundred and twenty were saved before the attack of the bandits.
