TWO ESCAPES

President Machado, Cuba, yesterday escaped death miraculously, when a bomb, was exploded within the wall of the Presidential Palace, near the President. A soldier who was posted as guard on the roof confessed to lowering a time-bomb through an air shaft to explode when President Machado lolt his bed as usual at an early morning hour. The soldier, however,, did not know that recent plumbing adjustments had left a pipe extended through an aperture, thus preventing the bomb from reaching its intended position. The explosion shattered the apartments over President Machado’s head. This is the climax of a series of bombings for many weeks. Tho day before three bombs wrecked tho Government School. On Saturday dozens of bombs were exploded in various parts of the city. HAVANA, February 25. President Machado escaped death again yesterday. He was gearing the end of a public address, when a, youth, among the big crowd of onlookers endeavoured to shoot him with a revolver. Bystanders seized the assailant and prevented an assassination.
