CHICAGO MAYORAL NOMINATION (United Press Association —By Eleotri. ; Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, February ‘24Mayor Thompson, of Chicago, has won his fourth Mayoralty nomination in the Republican Primary Election held on Tuesday, when he defeated Judge John H. Lyle with a plurality estimated at forty-five thousand. The election was one of the quietest on record in Chicago. It took place in tho presence of seven thousand “Poll Guards,” who prevented all disorder, with the exception of three kidnappings and a few minor fights without any gun play. The Democrats have selected lor the contest President Anton J. Cennai'k, of Cook County Board, whom Mayor Thompson is expected to defeat at the April elections, due to the entrance of an Independent candidate, who, it in believed, will decrease Mr Cermark’s vote. “Big Bill’s” supporters see. through his re-nomination, his opportunity to carry the fight against prohibition and internationalsm into the next Republican National Convention. It is believed that Mayor Thompson has won the unquestioned leadership of the Republican forces in the State of niiuois through his latest viotorv.
