SHIP OWNE S PROTEST
AT PREFERENCE TO WATERSIDE UNIONISTS. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 9.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, February 25. Oversea and inter-State shipowners have issued a statement condemning the arbitrary enforcement by Government of tli c regulation of preference of employment for members of the Waterside Workers Federation, which the High Court recently held to be valid. The statement appeals to the Senate to act swiftly and disallow it, otherwise there will recur cumulative holdups and disastrous strikes of a character which paralysed the shipping in 1928. Shipowners ask—What hope can there be for pence and continuity of work on th ( > waterfront, when volunteer labour is forbidden by Government regulation, and efficient volunteer labour, which afforded industrial peac ( » for two and a half years, is replaced by those hitherto guilty of turmoil, strile and great loss to primary producers.
