EARTHQUAKE AREA
REBUILDING COSTS. IN HAWKES BAY. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 24. Members of the Government are turning their attention to the problems of how best to meet the cost, of reo building the business portions of Napier and Hastings, A preliminary meeting was held this morning. Mr Forbes stated afterwards that it was not known yet how much money would be required, but as soon as that was ascertained, a decision wouy! be reached as the method of raising the necessary money. He would have definite proposals to submit- to Parliament during the emergency session NAPIER ESTIAfATES. NAPIER, February 24. At the Borough Council meeting this evening, it was officially stated it would cost two hundred and eighty thousand pounds to reinstate the Borough services. It is expected that the reinstatement of one chimney in each house u ill run into thirty thousand pounds.
