RADIO PROGRAMME

(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24th. M iss Merle Miller, of Christchurch, studio pianistc at 3YA and an exceptionally fine dramatic mezzo-so-prano, will give a vocal recital at IYA this evening. While in Sydney, Miss Miller sang with Joseph Hislop in a presentation of “Faust,” she taking the part of Seibel. Her IYA recital will comprise five songs. Also on the evening’s programme will he Mr Leu Barnes who will sing two operatic numbers and Salter’s “Ulysses.” Mr A. B. Chappell, M.A. will give his weekly Topical Talk. The instrumental side of the programme will lie prosided by Mr Cyril Towsey (pianist) and the Studio Orchestra Octet, under Mr Harold Beck. Tn contradistinction to lYA’s oper-atic-classical programme, 2YA has a concert of light variety. Mr Jack Farrell and his banjo quintet will play some assorted numbers. The vocalists will be: Miss Ella Fair (soprano), Miss Renee Shonrd (contralto) - and Mr Harry Matthew (baritone). Mr W Havdock, violinist, will play Tschaikowsky’s ‘‘Melodic,” with orchestral accompaniment. The programme to he presented by the Salon Orchestra will include “Russian Dances” by Bortkiewiez.

Miss Cicely Audibert, tonring the New Zealand stations under engagement to the Broadcasting Company, will give her second recital at 4YA. The. Saxophone Band will provide all the instrumental portion of the evening’s programme. This combination contains at least 20 saxophonists, under the direction of Mr J. McCaw. The selection on this occasion will include popular waltzes, marches and foxtrots, with a quartette and solo to add varietv. The artists appearing in support of this combination are: Miss Mary Somerville (contralto), Mr J. B. Hamilton (tmior) and Mr James A. Paterson (Scottish humorist). The talk by the Home Science Extension Department of Otago University from 4YA to-morrow afternoon will be on “Kitchen Talks.” Silent day at BY A. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25th. Mr Reg. Morgan and his Orchestra will provide tip. instrumental portion of what will be a popular concert. A wide selection of items will lie presented, including fox trots, and a number entitled “Old Time \Valt« Memories.” The vocal items will he provided b\ Miss Patricia McLeod (lyric soprano) Miss Molly Atkinson (mezzo-soprano) and Mr D. R. Jackson (baritone). A lecture-recital by Mr Karl Atkinson will be on “Vienna—-the Oity of Music.” Instrumental solo items will he played by Miss Ida Lockwood (violiniste), Mr C. Hoffman (saxophone and Air W. Bright (trumpeter). The fourth of the series of International programmes will he presented by 2YA. I)r Guv H. Scliolefield, 0.8. E., will give a talk.

A popular concert will he broadcast by 3YA. It will be contributed bv Miss Augusta Painter (soprano), Mrs C. .T. Stow (mezzo-contralto), Mr W. J. Bischlager (tenor), the Syncopators (piano and violin), Mr Harold Beck (’cellist), the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio and The Mascots, a clever due who will present the first part of a serial sketch entitled “Bent Free.’’ Miss Cic«ly Audibert (soprano) wil' give her third Dunedin recital. Miss Helen E. Boy, Mr E. W. Bobbins air Mr Noel H. North are also vocalists on the programme. The instrumental trio is to present selections from Mendelssohn, Widor and Schubert, whilst the Trio pianist, Mr Max Seherek, is playing Chopin’s “Ballade in A Flat.” The. IT A, 2YA and 3YA Home Science Talk, for to-nmrrow afternoon, prepared by the Home Science Extension Department of Otago University, will be “Fruit Preserving.”
