Despite the fact that the proceeds were to lie donated to the Earthquake Belie! Fund there was only a fair attendance. Both men were very wary, in the first round, ly the Russian, who refused p, come into a referee’s hold in the usuaf manner. McDougall had some difficulty in escaping from a douhle-wristlock and a half-nelson which Butsch applied with one of his legs. Butsch obtained an excellent body scissors on McDougall hut the latter alter holding the bridge for some time, kicked his way out. Just at the end of the round McDougall escaped from a short arm so i/iso rs by lifting Butsch bodily into the “air and then dumping.him heavily to the mat.

In the sedond round, MeDo'igall gave the Russian a good deal oi punishment with a headlock, Imt Butscli replied with a very punishing figurefour scissors on McDougull’is head. Butsch put a great deal of pressure into a body press and body scissors, and nearly had McDougall’.s shoulder down, but the Aucklander kicked himself free, and then applied -a full-nel-son front the side. Butsch escaped from this with a head spin, and had McDougall in a crucifix hold "at" the end of the round. - At the start of the third round both went into it referee’s hold for the first time since the start of the match. Butsch secured a crucifix and arm bar, but as he reached for a leg hold, McDougall rolled over on top of him and secured a fall with a body press.

The Russian began the next round with great, vigour. He rushed McDougall and butted him fiercely in the stomach and as the latter was holdin r his stomach, Butsch secured a flying scissors. They became entangled in the ropes, and after coming back to the centre of the ring, Butsch floored McDougall with a double wrist-lock and then obtained a fall by applying a reverse crucifix hold.

'l’lie fifth round was brimful of action from start to finish. The Russian had a Boston Crab half on, but McDougall pulled him back so he changed to the barred-toe-hold, which caused the Aucklander some trouble. McDougall secured a must punishing hammerlock, but as he was applying to the referee to award him a submission fall, Butsch escaped while applying a head lock with his other arm. Both men landed outside the ring on several occasions. Butsch had McDomrall in trouble with a full-nelson applied with his legs, but the latter had a punishing head scissors'on Butsch at the gong. The Bosnian obtained a cradle hold at the start of the sixth round. Imt he soon combined this with a key lock, which McDougall broke, after a good deal of bucking and kicking. McDoug-, all after throwing his opponent with a double wrist lock; secured a head scissors, and, as the Russian was trying for a reverse crucifix again, he arm-rolled Butsch and pinned him, thus gaining the deciding fall.

The bout, which was scheduled to go eight rounds was controlled by Mr L. Wilson.
