Spurious coins are reported to ho in circulation in Greymoutli, and are said to include coins of the threepence, sixpence and two-shilling denominations. inquiries were made today of the local banks, and they showed that the Commercial Bank of Australia was the only one to report having received any counterfeit coins, two spurious florins having been brought there during the last three weeks. A spurious threepenny piece, brought to the “Star” Office, was made in the opinion of several of the banim, of tin. The “threepence” was the same on both sides, tho words “two shillings” being on both the obverse and reverse. The edge was not milled and the colour of the coin was somewhat darker than that of an ordinary threepence.

A motor-car driven by Mr 7. J. Bansgrovc, of Runanga, was involved in two accidents with cyclists on Saturday afternoon. About 2,30 p.ni. the car came into collision with a boy cyclist, in Nelson .Street, damaging the bicycle and inflicting slight leg injuries to the boy who was able to proceed home. The Hokitika Amateur Swimming Club will hold a novelty carnival in the Municipal Paths on Thursday evening, commencing at 7.30 o’clock. Competitors from Greymouth, Rutianga, and Cohden will he taking part.

The music for the Earthquake Relief Fund Dance will of he a very distinctive nature. The death took place at Otane on Saturday, of Mr J. J. Langridge, a member of the Napier Harbour Board. He visited the West Coast during the Jubilee, representing that body. Mr Langrids.ro was an old resident of the West Const, and at one time owned a store, known at “Langridge and Masters’’ at Brunner. He loaves a wife and family of four daughters and mm son. On a visit to her sister Mrs C. Stoop of Rimu is Mrs J. Shirley of Napier, a member of the well known Winter family of Rimu. Aim Shirley is the mother of Mr Jack Shirley, who lost his life in the recent earthquake disaster, being employed as a clerk in the Nanier Hospital which building collapsed with the quake, 'file late Mr Shirley, who was a native of Kumara Junctioif, was here on a visit during the holiday season and to his bereaved relatives sympathy will be extended in the sad loss they have suffered.
