OBITUARY. (By Telegraph — Per Press Association) NELSON, February 19. The death occurred this morning of Air G. W. Hazel ton who retired from the position of Chief Postmaster of Nelson about a year ago, after forty years service. He' formerly was stationed at various places including Ashburton. Napier. Thames, Feilding, and Wanganui. Deceased who was much respected, leaves a widow and one son. ELECTROCUTED. DUNEDIN, ’Feb. 19. Sidney Harrington Findjater, employed as a barman was electrocuted while mending an electric iron at his house last night. He was testing the iron for his wife, who the previous day iiad received a slight shock. The power was on and the wife saw her husband suddenly fall to the floor. All efforts to rcsuHcints- wore without avail, ROOKIE FINED. PAHIATUA, February 19 . Joshua Joseph Swiggs was fined £SO for keeping a common gaming house at his residence for the purpose of bookmaking. His agent Alls E. M. Bellshaw was fined £ls for using her shop as a gaming house.
illegal gambling. CHRISTCHURCH, February 19. Leonard Smith was fined £SO at the Magistrate's Court to-day for keeping a common gaming house. The police said he was in a fairly big way. FIRE AT LEVIN. LEVIN, February 19. A fire at 12.00 a.m. destroyed a shop owned by Airs Herrick and occupied by Air AV. E. Alonks, tailor; also his stock. There was light damage to the adjoining premises. GOLD DISCOVERIES DISCLAIAIED. DUNEDIN, February 19. Professor Benson, whose party’s geological exmination of Preservation Inlet was the subject of press telegrams from Invercargill wires from Balclutha “Alv geological party disclaims the published highly misleading report of gold discoveries ill Preservation Inlet.”
