The weather is fine. England’s second innings like the first ended in a whirlwind of bitting, runs coining at an amazing pace. Chapman's policy was to collect runs as rapidly as possible, but all bis men except Tate found X u,.'Cn too good for Rhein. Tate bit out with will and had a couple of lives, one of which caused an unusual incident. He lifted the ball from Hall to deep mid on where Viljoen waited. He failed to hold the ball and dropped it over the boundary. Tbs umpiies, alter consultation, awarded six for the stroke. 22 came off Hall in one over including three sixes all except the first, a single, scored by Tate. Chapman declared with 9 forltiS. Africa made a bold bid for victory in the afternoon and only failed to secure a dramatic win by thirty-seven. It was a raee against time and mo clock won, the match ending in a draw, Mitchell deserved the distinction ol Africa's highest score. With Ouriunv he averted any fears of an immecnatv collapse and had Cur now shown more enterprise, Africa might nave won. The hero of the day, Cameron, who deciding to go for runs hit the bowling stylishly, correctly and effectively. The English attack, although steady. | lacked Saturday’s fire. Nevertheless, the batsmen could not afford to take risks. Mitchell was in 130 minutes making a stylish 74 including twelve boundaries. Cameiyn’s fine undefeated effort was applauded and included 10 boundaries. ENGLAND—First Innings.
