LABOUR WORLD

TRADE UNION MEETING. TALK OF GENERAL STRIKE. (Australian Press Association.) (Received 9.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, February 18. At a meeting of the Australia Council of Trade Unions, Secretary Cross dealing with unemployment, said the political machine was inadequate to cope with the situation. The only means to secure a satisfactory result will be a declaration by the Federal Government of a national emergency, enabling the Arbitration Court decisions to be overridden, so that workers could obtain whatever industrial conditions they desired. At to-dav’s session, a motion for a general strike is expected to be submitted which, it is believed will have strong support, though it is doubtful if it will be carried.
