common gaming house, AUCKLAND, February 16. “It’s just a sign of the times.” said Mr F. D. M’Liver, who appeared for Zoe Purdy, aged thirty-one years, who was charged at the Police Court today with using premises in the city as a common gaming house. Accused pleaded guilty. “Until Dkemlier last my client had been out of work.” added Mr M’Liver. “She had to do something, so she took this position ns » clerk.” Detective-Sergeant Kelly said that at 11.30 a.m. on Saturday last Detectives Nalder, Packman and M’AVhirter went to an office in a large city building and executed a search warrant. A quantity of betting material was seized. Accused was the sole occupant. There were two telephones going all the time the detectives were there, and they took several bets which came through. “She’s only the. clerk and whatever she is fined will be' paid by the boss,” said Sergeant Kelly. “We hope so, anyway,” said Mr M’Liver with a smile.
