CLIMBS IN SOUTH WESTLAND. (From a Correspondent.) WAIHO GOUGE, February 14. On the HKh ilist.. .Miss K. Gardener of the English Ladies Alpine ( ltd), accompanied by guide P. Graham and F. Alack (both Watt Const guides) made the suceessml ascent of ,)lr Set-ton 10,350 feet, from a high bivouac on the Westland side above Welcome Flat in the Copeland valley. Miss Gardener, also on the lltli with the same guides made the second ascent of Scott’s Peak and the lirst ascent of an unnamed and unclimbed peak in the Ala,in Divide, south of Alt. Soft on. Miss Gardener has climbed extensively iu Canada, besides several ol the notable peaks in New Zealand in itlie neighbourhood of the Frans .Josef glacier and at ‘the Hermitage, including Air Cook. A 1 is-s Gardener is the second lady to climb Alt. Sol ton. The weather was perfect! and a wonderful view of the .Southern Alps was obtained.
