BAND CONCERT

A concert organised l>y the Hokitika Municipal (Band at short notice, in aid of the Earthquake Relief fund, was held at the Princess Theatre last evening, kindly loaned free of charge for the occasion. The Rand had prepared a well diversified programme, and had the assistance of some of the leading local amateurs who presented several excellent numbers. The whole concert was enjoyed greatly, every item being applauded loudly. The attendance was only moderate.

Hie Rand, under the eoiidiictorsliip of Mr C. 13. Ross, opened with the march “My Regiment,” and during the evening played the following numbers: Selection, “Scenes of Beauty,” Band (with cornet solo); “Silver Threads;” Selection, “Souvenir do Opera;” Hymn, “Be by My Side;” Selection, “Melodious Memories;” final,*march “Sword and Lance.” The supplementary items supplied by the ladies and gentlemen wore :—- Song. “Pa ''g My,” hv Mr Tiddy (a visitor from Napier who was in the earthquake) ; song, “Still as the night” (with ’cello obligato) Mrs Robilliard; seerod solo, “Bo Thou Faithful” (from St. Paul) by Mr Arnold Perry; ’cello solo, “Htimourosquo” and “The Swan,” by Air Robilliard; solo, “A Summer Night” and “Flow Gentle Sweet Afton,” by .Miss Ann Duff; sacred solo, “Fear not ye, 0 Israel,” Mrs Arnold Perry, The accompanists wore Miss .Gie.se and Airs Robilliard. Air Evans thanked all who had assisted with the musical programme, and the Band for so promptly organising the benefit for the fund, which needed all financial 'support possible, so great would he the requirements of the afflicted people. In thanking the public for the patronage extended, it was mentioned the Executive Committee would he glad of offers to help benefits to the fund, and consideration would he given to any proposals at the weekly meeting |.o-morrow evening. The proceedings closed last night with the Band playing the National Anthem.
