RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13th. IYA will broadcast a Spelling Bee, with supplementary items, this evening. The Spelling Bee will be restricted to pupils from the Primary Schools and should prove very enter-, turning. For the light programme at 2YA •the singers will l>e Miss Gretta Stark. Mr Ray Kemp, Mr Will Hancock and Mrs Ray Kemp. Many popular solos, duets and quartettes will be sung. Humorous items will be contributed by Mr Will McKeon. Mr S. William son, an exponent of the banjo, will play a number of popular airs. Thr orchestral programme will include “The Bohemian Girl” overture, a selection from “The Spring Maid,’’ “Darkey’s Dream,” “Medley,” two novelties, “Highland Laddie,” “Coon’s Patrol,” a valse, “O’ Mari,” and “Peg 0 ! My Heart.” Contributing to 3Y\’s variety programme will be Mrs F. C. Vaughan (soprano), Mr Sidney Williamson (tenor), Mr F. W. Simpson (baritone). Miss Elaine Moody’s Hawaiian quartet of steel guitars and ukelele, Miss Aileen Warren (pianiste), Mr Norman Goffin (cornetist) and the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio. The programme will consist of items of a very diversified nature.
At 4YA, Mr Geo. Christie, the solo cornetist of the St. Kilda Afunieipa' Band, will present two numbers, on'' of which will he Hoch’s “Concertante.” This item is one of the earliest cornet solos and is a brilliant niece of work. Miss Ella Hayden and Mr R. B. MacDonald will make their second appearance as vocal duettists. Mr A Ritchie (contralto). Mr Geo. Crawford (tenor) and Miss M. E. .Turiss (elocution iste) are the remaining artists on the programme. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14th. On lYA’s programme for this evening, humour in novelty form will be 8 .,v.-n oy "Ernest and Windy” when they will present another of their enui uinmenus entit.ed “Merry Moments at the Piano.” “Eric and Jack” will give a group of popular numbers. Miss Doris Moore (contralto) will be heard in solos. The Monte Carlo Orchestra, under the direction of Mr F. K. Cunningham, will be making another appearance before the microphone. They have included in their items a selection from the “The Belle of New York,” the evor-green musical comedy.
A good assortment of items will be heard from 2YA. Popular airs will be sung by Airs R. M. Cumin in’s, to ukelele accompaniment. Tenor solos to be contributed by Air Nolio' Toki. will be “Sympathy” (by Marshall), “When Song is Sweet” (by Sans Souci), “Mamma Maid of the Mountains” (bv" Don) and “AVait” 'by D’Hardelot). Air Jack Reekie will make his debut before 2YA microphone as a humorist. Air L. AV. Probert will play a xylophone solo and Air AV. ,J. Haines a saxophone solo. The Orchestral numbers will be well varied.
Cabaret songs at the piano with banjolele by the Rose and'Thistle Due novelty items by Mr Sidney Hoskins, ba«s .solos by Air R. S. H. Buchanan, violin solos by Alias Irene Morris, sketches by The Mascots, and cornet solos by Air Fred fox, will comprise 3YA’s programme, which will also bo broadcasted by 4YA.
