HOKITIKA HARBOUR BOARD
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12th. The ordinary meeting of the Board took place yesterday afternoon at 4.30 o’clock. Present:—Messrs M. Houston yChaitman) E. W. Richards, E. \V. lleenan, .). J. Mclntosh and l)r Teicholmann. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and outward correspondence l was read and adopted. IX WAR I) CORRESPONDENCE. A number of formal Idlers were read and received. From R. .1. Higgins through Messrs Park and Murdoch, offering .LIU lor 100 feet of .the skill sites. Opinion was generally expressed that the site mentioned was objectionable and the offer unreasonably low } hut that every possible encouragement lie given to encourage industry.—Moved by .Mr Hetman seconded by Mr Richards am! carried ‘That the Chairman and Mr Mclntosh be appointed a committee to deal with the matter with power to act.” From South Westland Shipping Cov. for the charge of water for the rnotorship Gael lie fixed at U 3 per year. .Moved by Mr Heonan and seconded by |)r. Teicholmann and carried that it. hf! agreed to. From Harbourmaster reporting Unit there "'as a straight wide channel with lift to 13ft. —Received. With regard to the Earthquake at llawkes Bay. the Chairman said that all members felt deeply the tragedy and moved the sympathy el the Board lio recorded. It was resolved that CIO IDs lie voted to the Relief Fund. Seconded by Dr. Teichelmann and carried. In regard to the rubbish dump near the Harbour works’, the Chairman reported as the result of an interview with Borough Council members, the Council undertook to control effectively the deposit of offensive matter. Ah' lleenan said the Councils undertaking bad not been carried out. It wa.s moved bv Mr Mclntosh and seconded by Mr Heonan and carried that Council be written and asked to carry out their undertaking. IVitb regard to the unemployed Mr Mclntosh moved and seconded by Air Heonan that if a satisfactory working Overseer can be secured, as many men :is possible be employed to take advantage under the No 5 scheme in replacing the abandoned portion of. the wharf. The meeting rose at 6 p.m.
