DREDGE SINKS
FATALITY IN BASS STRAIGHT. captain and Mate drowned. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 10 a,rn,) LAUNCESTON, February 13. The dredge “Xerous” capsized and sank in Bass Straight. The master, Captain Fitzgerald and the mate Harold Scarborough were drowned. The tug “St. Olaves” which is towing the “Kerens” rescued the remainder of the crew. The disaster occurred with startling suddenness, the dredge foundering within 20 seconds five minutes after springing a leak.
