EARTHQUAKE TREMOR
AT DUNEDIN. (By Telegraph —Per Tress Associat ion) DUNEDIN, February 13. til very definite earth tremor, stronger in some parts of the city than any telt since the Murchison and Ctira disasters, occurred about 9.42 this morning. It is reported as experienced as far south as Waihola. THE OTAGO QUAKE. SOME DAlvir.uE DONE. DUNEDIN, February 13. Queenstown reports a sharp earthquake shock at 9.40 this morning of 30 seconds 'duration. There was slight damage to several chimneys. The shake in Dunedin two minutes later was briefer and variable in intensity. It was felt most on the flat. In a grocery shop tins at the shelfedge were thrown to the ground, and in one large drapery many girls took refuge under the counters till reassured. Heavy ledgers are reported to have been thrown from the desks in a efty office. } A slight earthquake was felt in \ Hokitika this morning at about 0.42 o’clock.
GENERALLY EXHENCED. WELLINGTON, February 13. The Secretary of the General Post Office reports a slight earthquake shock was felt at 9.41 a.m. in certain 'districts in the South Island. Advices have been received from the undermentioned offices:— Cromwell.—Slight earth tremors, duration about three seconds ; an east to west motion, experienced at 9.41 a.m. Pembroke. —Slight earthquake shock felt at 9.41jj a.m. Felt by persons indoors, but not outdoors. Apparent direction east by west, or west by east. Arrowtown.—Short sharp earthquake at 9.40 a.m. Lasted approximately ten seconds. No damage reported. Dunedin.—Slight earth tremor of two or three seconds duration at 9.42. Invercargill.—Slight earthquake at 9.40. No damage reported. PROLONGED ’QUAKE'. WELLINGTON, Feb. 13. A prolonged shock of earthquake has just been experienced and caused lights in the “Evening Post’s” building to swing with greater intensity than the initial big shock at Napier last week. SHOCK AT WAIPUKURAU. WELLINGTON, February 13, ” The Secretary of the General Post Office received a report front "Waipukliratl that a Very heavy earthquake of a rolling type wan experienced at p.m, to-day. , •rrrr*-ra*'*nrrr*rv?r\ SHOCK AT BLENHEIM. BLENHEIM, February 13. A prolonged quake with a swaying movement, was felt here at 1.29 p.m. It was a north and south direction.
