PUBLIC MEETING
EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUND. There was a representative gathering of citizens 7u t »' ■ Town Hall last evening at 7 o’clock to form an exuctivo for the purpose of collecting funds for the Earthquake Fund. Those present included:—His AVorship the Mayor (Air G. A. Perry), Revs. Finorty, and knights, Messrs J. J. Breu.e, T. W. Duff, J .('. Alaefarlane, AI. Aic-Gav-in, C. I>. Ross, AA'. E. Richards, Dr Hayes, AAA Gaylor, F. AlcGrogor, J. A. Murdoch and Thorn. The Mayor occupied the chair and briefly stated the meeting was called to appoint an executive for the purpose of collecting funds for Earthquake Relief of February 3, 1931. Fie then moved that the following be the executive with power to add:—The Mayor, Revs. FTnerty, Knights, Messrs Evans, Jeffries, Duff, Bruce, Aiaefariane, 7>icGavin, Richards, McGregor, Ross, Thorn, Murdoch, Senile, and Dr Hayes. This was seconded by Mr J. J. Breeze and carried. ■ it was resolved the fund be' called the Earthquake Relief Fund. The Alnvor stated that the ladies would help with any scheme formulated: It was moved niid carried that Aft* T. W, Briice be elected Secretary and Treasurer and the following were authorised to sign cheques The Mayor, Secretary uud Mr J. J. Breeze. It was suggested to open up a depot Ibr the receipt of clothing, It was resolved to circularize the following society's:—Red Cross Society', Sewing Guild, Plunket Society’, Guild of Catholic Ladies, Friendly Societies, and Clubs to organise a systematic canvas of the district. The Alayor moved and Air McGavin seconded that anyone desiring to help the fund by any function get permission from the Committee. An apology was received from Rev. Naylor, Messrs D. J. Evans, and AAA Jeffries. —Received. Air R. Paterson, secretary of the R.S.A., wrote stating that the Soldiers Hall would be at the disposal of the Committee, rent free, for any r purpose used for Earthquake Relief.—Received. The Secretary read a telegram from the Secretary of the Treasury, AYellington (Air T. B. Mitchell) re the relief funds, stating that any funds collected should be paid into the public account and bank receipt forwarded to the Treasury.—Received. The Committee meet weekly at the Town Hall on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. The meeting terminated at 8 p.m.
