LIBERAL PACT

AVI TIT BRITISH LABOUR. ! United Press Association-—By Electric Telegraph—Copynght. ] LONDON, February 11. •A mu her Liberal-Lkhour conference at Downing Street is believed to have resulted in an agreement on unemployment policy and on other matters designed to keep the Government in office. Air Ramsay MacDonald, accompanied by a number of members of the Cabinet, received Air Lloyd George, who was accompanied by Sir Herbert Samuel and other Liberals. It is understood that the Liberals yielded to Air Snowden’s arguments against a great development loan. The debate in the House of Commons to-day promises to he of unusual interest. The problem, of the rising cost of the social services and the need for cutting down the public expenditure is mindly becoming a live issue in Britain. The “Times” says:—"Whatever may be the result of the current financial year, it is already certain that the legislation and administration of the Labour Government will have added over thirty millions sterling to the charges to be met from taxation, and thirtyfive millions, to the charges improperly met from borrowing, while the future commitments will be much heavier. The national resources arc mortgaged to fire hilt. To-day's Commons debate raises the question of whether any political party is really determined to cut down, not only the waste but also statutnrv commitments. j Tn the Commons, the Agricultural j Bill was road the third time by 282 to 22b.
