AMERICAN ATHLETES. -« APPEARANCE AT HAAVERA. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) HAAVER A, February' 12. Appearance of the three American athlete stars Rothert, Simpson and Kiser drew, an attendance of. over a thousand ah <)he sports ' meeting at Hawera showgrounds last- night. v The outstanding features of the meeting were the record shot by Rothert, who registered ‘49ft. 6|ms., and the 100 yards by Simpson, in 9 4-5 secs and Stan Lay’s javelin throw of-231 feet inches. Kerr covered the half mile in 1 min. 58 l-o secs the only event competed running into fifth place. Simpson also started in the 220yds. handicap but was unable to cede to the handicaps asked and ran into third place, both in his heat, and the final. Th e tracks were slightly holding. Lay’s javelin thrown was made during an exhibition in which Rothert also took part. Rothert registered 180 ft, and Lav’s throw was his best to date. L. A. Newell of Hawera in winning the heat of the 120yds. hurdles from scratch equalled the N.Z. standard of 16 secs.
