BAND CONTEST
POSTPONEMENT OUTLINED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 11. The reasons for the postponement of the bands contest was outlined by the President of the North Island Brass Bands Association, Mr H. D. Bennett. The decision was arrived at unanimously at a combined meeting of the local and national bodies. The band's domiciled outside Wellington have been circularised by telegram. The majority of the replies favoured postponement prior to the earthquake, purely because of the general depression. The question of postponement was considered when the Hawkes Bay catastrophe came and further the group of bands from that district added to the ever growing list of nonparticipants. Of the thirteen senior bands nominated the certainties were reduced to four. These included two local bonds. Of more numerous second B grade bands, survivals numbered nine out of thirty five, with no certainty that bottom had been reached. Obviously the contest is losing its national character, especiallv among first sraders. Behind the decision was the thought of the tragedy in Hawkes Bay.
