OR KPKSA ARRIVES. (United Press Association- By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrignt.; LIMA, (Peru) ; February 9. The Orepesa arrived at C'nboblnncc, Peru, this morning. THE ROYAL VISIT TO SOUTH AMERICA. LIMA (Peru), February 10. Calloa and Lima made ready to-day to give an enthusiastic welcome to the Prince of Wales and Prince George when they arrive to-morrow. The Princes touched Peruvian soil first yesterday at Caboblanco, autoinobiling through Labitos and Negritos to Tala ra, where the party was feted at the Peruvian Club. They then proceeded to Payta where they embarked on the Oropesa for the run to Calloa.

ASTRONOMER’S VJEW. OF RECENT ’QUAKE. SAN FRANCISCO, February 9. Captain T. J. J. See, Government Astronomer at Mare Island naval station says:—The New Zealand earthquake was caused by the shifting of the ocean bed incident to the formation of an enormous new mountain range in the western Pacific, similar to the Andes of South America. “Running diagonally from New Zealand almost to San Francisco, there is a trough of water about four miles deep. The pressure of water pushing up the ocean floor in one direction and the leakage of water from the trough into the hot lava below creates steam which shoves the lava up under the North Island.” Captain See said that a similar condition exists off Asea.

OBITUARY. OTTAWA, February 9. Thomas A. Low, ex-Minister of Trade and Commerce, died at Renfrew (Ontario) to-day.
