HEROIC RESCUES
BY U.S.A. COASTGUARDS. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). WASHINGTON, February 9. Official circles are highly praising the courage of fifty New York coastguardsmen who, after nearly three days, effected under extremely hazardous conditions the rescue of a total of forty men and boys from ice floes on Lake Erie, in which they were driven far from the shore by a storm while fishing through the ice. The Coastguard with aeroplanes and boats, battled witli high winds and blinding snow over the lake. They experienced much difficulty in locating the victims, and have been forced to risk their lives in a long battle with the blizzard before effecting the rescue. They saved all the fishermen but four, who were lost from one-, group before the Coastguard arrived on the scene.
