WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD

-MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9. The meeting of the above took place at the Board rooms at 8 o’clock. Present:—Al.es.srs J. J. Breeze (Chairman.) f. AY. Duff, AA\ Eveden, R. Meharry, A. R. lflcock, and G. Davidson. Apologies for absence were received Messrs Al. Keenan and H. AA’ells. The minutes ofykhe previous meeting meeting were read and confirmed and outward correspondence read and approved. NOTE OF SYMPATHY. The Chairman moved a vote or sympathy with the people of Hawkes Bay in connection with the loss of life and severe property damage sustained in the disastrous earthquake. Seconded by Mr T. W. Duff, and carried, members standing in silence. HER.OIC ‘WORK. Air G. Davidson commented on the heroic work done by the nurses in the recent quake disaster. Their wore was of the highest standard and their courage in rescuing their fellow beings was worthy of the greatest praise. MiBreeze supported Air Davidson’s remarks. IN AY ARD CORK ES PON DENCE. Frmo Air J. O’Brien M.P., regarding Earthquake Relief Fund.—-Received. From Uoininion Hospital Boards Association adjourning conference and submitted agenda papers; it is now cancelled to be held next year.—Received. Emin •). W. Buehannan, secretary of Nurses and Alidwives Board forwarding copy of regulations.—Received. From Government Printer, regarding year book.—Received. From Government Statistician acknowledging receipt of quarterly returns.—Received. Emm Dr Al.clnyre, Cashmere Sanatorium reporting on admittance of three patients from the West Coast.—Received. From same report of three patients a I ready there .—Received. From Dr Chisolm, Hamner Springs supplying favourable report on patient already there.-—Received. Emm Unemployment Board advising of No. 5 scheme.—Received ; the matter was referred to Air Davidson with .lower to act. Emm Railway Department forwarding deed for access road, signed by the B< ami. The following report was supplied by .Matron I). Strongman.—l desire to report that Sister Golding commenced duties in Aland! AVard on Sunday IMth inst. Nurse Woodill live days sick leave. Nurse Hughes left on Satur-i day, January 31st., having completed three years and nine months training. Probationer Airey commenced three months’ probation on February Ist 1931. Sister Goad is on annual leave. Airs Rouse commenced duties after 21 days’ annual leave. Received. SURGEON’S REPORT. I'lie Surgeon Superintendent’s, Dr. A. Hopkins, report was as follows. — Remaining in hospital on Deeeber 31st 1930, 15 males. 12 females, total 27. Admitted during January 29 .males 29 (females, total 58. Treated during the month, 44 males 41 females, totni 85. Discharged cured, 22 males, 30 females, total 52. Died 4 males, total 4. Total discharged 2(5 males, 30 females, total 5(5. Remaining in hospital at end of January, 18 males, 11 females, total 2!). Numbe rof patients who received indoor treament for two months and upwards at presen in hospital, 7 males 5 females, total 12.—Received.

The Treasurer’s report was as follows. —Receipts £1195 19g Id, expenditure £903 4s lOd, credit balance in Bank £IOO7 17s Id, outstanding cheques £37 9s 7d, £970 7s 9d. The schedule of farm produce for the month was received. In moving its rosception AFr Duff said the results received from the farm at the hospital were excellent, and he congratulated Air Davidson and lii.s staff oil their excellent work. Air Breeze seconded Afr Duff’s remarks. Air Davidson briefly acicnowledged the compliments made. The Board rose at 9.30 p.m.
