DEATH OF MR W. F. BRETT. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) REEFTON, February 9. The death occurred on Saturday evening of Mr AY. F. Brett, Inangahua County Engineer, 59 years. Deceased was regarded as the finest uudeiground ruining surveyor in the Dominion. FIRE BLIGHT REPORT. CHRISTCHURCH. February 9. It is reported that tire blight has been discovered on a pear tree in the city. The Canterbury Fruitgrowers’ Association have set up a commttee to take steps to eradicate the disease. BODY FOUND. HAMILTON, February 9. The body of Andrew Alexander Hotts aged 71 years, who has been missing from his home at Cambridge since January 27th. was found in the Waikato river about seven miles from Hamilton yesterday.
ASSAULT CHARGE.’ ASHBURTON. February 9. At the Police Court Patrick AlcGiun, 39. was sentenced to 2 months’ hard for assaulting Ins mother. Margaret AJfcOiun, 74, on Friday night. McGinn struck her with his clenched fist blackening both her eyes. One is completely closed up. Her face was terribly bruised. Accused knocked her on the bed and punched her. “1 don’t remember what happened,” said accused. “I was under the influence otf drink.”
CAR FATALITY. WANO A NCI. Fehruary 7. When an open car left Para para Road this afternoon and turned over Eileen Snell, aged fifteen months, was killed, and her father, Harry Snell, is in thp hospital with an injured shoulder. Airs Snell was shaken.
